COMPACT CAR DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
• All drivers must be 16 years or older. Proof of legal drivers license is required.
• The pit area will be restricted to participants and pit crew only No one under the age of 16 will be allowed. Under 18 must have written parental consent forms signed to be able to enter. ID will be asked for. Parents or Legal guardian must sign releases at the event site.
• Any fighting or drinking in the pit area will subject the offender and the car he is associated with, with suspension depending upon the serious of the incident and the decision of the officials. The driver/ owner of every car are responsible for his pit crew and their conduct. (This includes fans and family in the grandstand) The Security guards will have arrest powers, so come and have a good time but do not think you are going to make trouble.
• Drivers will not be allowed to get out of their cars on the track, argue or discuss any situation with the flagmen or officials. Also drivers will not be allowed to unfasten their seat belts and helmets to work on cars. (violations of this rule will results in disqualification) Pit crew members are the driver’s responsibility-Their actions could disqualify your car.
• Absolutely no one allowed in the officials booth other than the officials.
• Any disagreement over technical question or operations will be resolved by the racing officials. When their decision is rendered such decision is final and binding.
BEFORE ENTERING THE GROUNDS
• All glass and mirrors inside and out must be removed, including windshields. Glass not allowed in door panels or trunks must be cleaned out. This is inside an arena so these cars must be clean or you will not be able to run.
• All chrome or plastic trim and molding must be removed, Including all plastic grills, tail lights and parking lights.
• Absolutely no profane words or suggestive pictures will be allowed on your participating car. This is a family type entertainment and you will not be allowed to participate if any profanity of any type is used.
• All cars must have minimum 10 – 12 inch white number plate mounted to roof with bright number painted on both sides. Also must have number on both front doors and be least twelve inches in height. This is for scoring purpose and is a must.
• Advertising on your car is welcomed. Paint your sponsors on your car and we will try to announce them. The most unique painted car will be in best decorated contest for a trophy to be judged and given away prior to the derby.
SAFETY RULES
• All drivers must wear a helmet and a seat belt. Shoulders harnesses are recommended by not mandatory. Shoulder harness will help prevent facial and chest injuries. Required that drivers wear long sleeves and gloves while in car!!!!
• During the action, If you remove your seat belt or helmet, or leave your car for any reason during the demo (exception if you car is on fire or authorized by an official)
IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION WILL RESULT!
• The driver door must have support, it can be on outside of door for the driver’s protection. Reinforcement material cannot extend more that 2 inches beyond the outer limits of the upright doors posts.
• We suggest using the foam padding from the back seat on the inside of drivers door to help from getting banged up from sliding into the drivers door with your elbows, ribs, etc.
BILLINGS DEMOLITION DERBY RULES:
1. Cars and station wagons with 3, 4, or 6 cylinder engines only. Cars must be 107 inch or less in wheel base. Most cars this type are Mazda, Pinto, Toyota, Pontiac Sunbird and Grand Am’s, Mustang II, Volkswagen’s. No AMERICAN PACER or VOLVO cars (they are basically just like trucks) NO pickups trucks allowed. Standard type compact or smaller cars only.
2. Suspension must remain at standard height. No spacers, stops, blocks, or reversed spring shackles used to raise or lower car. Torsion bars may not be adjusted to raise or lower car, Shocks may not be welded, and no more that 4 band spring (original size) allowed. Rear spring and rear end may not be tied to frame. Rear or differential must be of stock type, welded or posi-track optional. No wire or chains from rear ends springs to body or frame. Stock type springs only – No truck springs.
3. Fender trimming allowed – may be cut to outer diameters of tires. Bumpers end may be cut and bumper shocks may be welded solid. Bumpers can be welded to bumper shocks.
4. Truck lids must have two holes cut in size of football or bigger for inspection of trunk area. If back seat removed and we can clearly see into truck though rear fire wall to inspect your car – no inspection holes are needed.

5. Trunks must be empty / no added ballast. No trunk pins can be connected to the frame or thru the trunk floor. If bolting the lid shut no more than six 1” bolts can be used. No wire, straps or chains from truck lid to trunk floor, a maximum of two steel straps used to weld trunk shut, may not exceed 2 inch wide x ¼ inch thick x 6 inch long. This also applies to station wagon tailgates.
6. All cars must have a hood and they must be securely fastened down, they also must have holes size of footballs or bigger for inspection and fire extinguisher access, Also you may be asked to removed hood for inspection. No hood pins may be connected to the frame and they are limited to six -1inch bolts. Hoods may not be extended to front bumper.
7. If wiring or chaining hoods or trunks, use no larger than #9 wire or equivalent size chains this means 3/8 inch chain not a log chain. You may have a total of 2 chains or 3 strands of wire on the trunk and same for hood, not a combination of chain/ bolts/hood pins/ pick one.
8. If using wire in windows use no larger than #9 wires and no more than 3 strands in each opening. No wire in front left door windows opening. Driver’s door window opening must not have anything in it, in case driver needs to exit thru window opening.
9. Radiator must remain in original position. Radiator support must remain in original position and not be welded and beefed up. NO auxiliary water coolers. No reserve water tanks added.
10. Battery must be moved to inner area, but must be fasten securely and covered with foam, inner tube, or plastic. No more than two regular automotive batteries or one industrial type battery..
11. Original gas tank must be removed unless it is in front of the rear axle. It is recommended that a supplement tank maximum 6 gallon capacity like a boat tank or well made fuel cell replace the stock gas tank. All fuel tanks must be fastened securely. No gas can or beer kegs can be used for fuel cell. Cars must use gasoline, no propane, diesel powered cars.
12. Engine must be in original location. A chain is allowed from motor to frame to help hold motor in line.
13. Tires must be DOT approved passenger car or LT tires up to 6 ply. No off road, studded tires or lugs. Any tires with marking ground off are illegal. Also no tires inside of tires. Nothing inside tires but air. Mud and Snow tires are allowed but no studded tires.
14. Exhaust can be altered. Mufflers are not mandatory. Exhaust must not be routed thru the driver’s compartment. Keep fuel lines away from exhaust.
15. Transmission should be stock type. If using automatic, cooler lines maybe re-routed from radiator, and an auxiliary transmission cooler is allowed.
Remember these rules:
Driver’s door seams can be welded solid. Driver’s door must have some kind of support. Some examples are a piece of pipe welded to the outside of the door, grader blades welded to driver’s door. Make that drivers door safe as you can.
Welding of other body seams with a skip weld (weld 5 inch skip 5 inch) is ok. Welding the outside (not inside) of your body is ok, this include trunk lid ….BUT NOT THE HOOD THIS HAS TO REMOVABLE FOR INSPECTION. Any addition welding or beefing up the car unless stated here you will be disqualified. You must wire or chain bumpers to help them stay on.
Note: Three to four bars mounted from top of car to dash area in front of the driver’s side at the windshield area is recommended. This is to help stop big items to come flying into driver area. BUT do not put anything clear across the windshield as the driver may need to get out in a hurry due to fire. One brace between door posts is allowed, it can be X brace behind seat. You may also have a bar across dash. Don’t use anything bigger that 3 inch material and 3/8” wall. If you do not see it in these rules it is probably illegal or not allowable.

Pit Gate Fees are $20 per each person. Pit passes only available at the Gate with cash. ($50 Entry Fee includes Driver Pit Pass.) Each pit person or driver must sign the release sheet. No one under 16 years old in pit area – A special seating area in the grandstand will be marked off for drivers and pit people. Spectator tickets are available at the Box Office.

ALL WHO ENTER THE RACE OR ACQUIRE A PIT PASS ACCEPT ALL RISKS AND RELEASE INDEMNITY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE METRA COMPLEX, THE RIMROCK AUTO ARENA, THE EVENT SPONSORS, TRACK PERSONNEL, AND BECKLEY’S CHECKERED FLAG PRODUCTIONS, INC.
Anyone under 18 yrs old must have both Parents on site to sign the release waivers, or you must have a legal guardian to come into the pit area or enter in the Demo Derby
