This past Saturday night May 2nd in Waco at the beautiful McLane Stadium the NO Limits Monster Truck World Championship were held as thousands attended this first time event. What they saw was way more virtual Motorsports buffet as the night started out with a daredevil Motorcycle Jump by Big Ed Beckley.
Beckley is the president of Checkered Flag Productions and had been in town all week long to build the track for the monster trucks and to also do interviews and attend promotions for the event. With unexpected weather problems the track building did not take place until Friday and then finished up on Saturday only hours before the show. Beckley virtually crawled off a dozer and went to his room and took a shower and then put on this leathers and helmet and launched his Harley 600cc off a ramp he had never ridden on and flew 90 feet over a long line of trucks and vans. It was an incredible jump – but not over the 10 semi trucks he wanted too but the crowd loved him and they lit up that stadium!
Next was the Hot Rod Truck N Tractor Pull and the crowd also loved them as most had either never seen a pull or had never seen them inside a huge stadium like the one in Waco. With the front wheels in the air they wheelied down the track while pulling a 50,000 pound weight transfer sled. It was an amazing site and a welcome event by most fans.
Then here came the monsters and they were ready!
There was some breakage and miscue’s but there was some awesome racing with BOUNTY HUNTER Jimmy Creton taking the win in that portion over BIGFOOT Dan Runte. This setup a wild freestyle with drivers jumping almost 150 feet through the air off a huge double school bus jump! Runte got the best air for sure but Steve Koehler in WRECKING CREW was the wildest and craziest and with a huge wheel ripping crash won the freestyle!
So now it was up to the officials as the two top trucks Bounty Hunter and Bigfoot were in a tie! Here is where it became sticky. Bounty Hunter had won Racing. Bigfoot had finished second in Racing. In freestyle Bounty Hunter got 3rd and Bigfoot got 2nd so that left them both 4 points. Officials would usually give it to the highest placing finisher in the tie with the last event (freestyle) would have definitely would put Dan Runte as the winner.
CFP wanted to make sure what the fans wanted they got and it went down to where even the cheer off had a tie. After reviewing the cheer off one final time it was a Bounty Hunter or Bigfoot in a scream off and then it was very evident that Bigfoot had won the cheer off and Dan Runte was elated! ” I would like to thank all my sponsors for helping me on this SUMMIT Bigfoot truck and for sure Bob Chandler and the whole Bigfoot organization and for and incredible ride and would like to thank all you for coming here to watch us do what we love!”
Congratulations Dan Runte and TEAM SUMMIT BIG FOOT you are the reigning No Limits World Champion and you won it fair and square!
