Points Update – The Battle for the National Championship

April 9, 2010

After more than 3 months of touring, crushing cars, catching big air and seemingly endless miles spent on the road in between – the fight for the Grand National Championship is set, and the bell is getting ready to sound the beginning of the final battle.

In what has possibly been the closest points race in Monster Truck History – 5 trucks remain with a shot at the 2010 Championship!  With double points on the line in all disciplines at the final event – all 5 contenders truly have a shot at the title!

Current Top 5 Standings:

  1. Larry Swim – Bigfoot Bad Boy – 1368 points
  2. Bill Payne – Rock Star – 1150 points
  3. Devin Jones – Barbarian – 1125 points
  4. Isaiah Morales – Hot Tamale – 1050 points
  5. Darren Migues – Bounty Hunter – 933 points

At the Final Event – set to take place in Pocatello, Idaho at ISU Holt Arena on April 17 – it will be possible to take home 500 total points.  With that number in mind the Bigfoot Team had better bring their “A Game” because everyone is gunning for Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy – the defending National Champion.  Larry has the possibility to take home an unprecedented 2nd straight title, but with a field consisting of 8 more of the biggest and baddest Monster Trucks in the world – his work will be cut out for him.

One guy that wants to foil the victory celebration is Bill Payne the driver of Rock Star.  Bill is widely regarded for his electric Wheelie and Freestyle performances – and with his driving style and push it to the edge attitude a rivalry is beginning to form between him and the Bigfoot camp.  Bill and Rock Star finished 2nd in the final points standings last year – and you better believe he will do whatever it takes on the track to prevent that from happening again.

The rest of the battle is made up of 3 of the top up and coming drivers in the business today.  Devin Jones and Barbarian are enjoying a successful season in their first campaign to capture a championship.  Devin is no rookie, but this is first chance at running for an overall tour championship and he is certainly making the most out of it.

Closely behind Devin is the Hot Tamale driven by hot shoe Isaiah Morales.  Isaiah is another one of these guys who will do whatever it takes to put on a show for the fans, and as such he is quickly earning a reputation for being one of the top performers in the world.  Sitting just over 300 points out of the lead Isaiah has his work cut out for him, and he will take it to a whole new level at the Dome in Pocatello.

Last but certainly not least is Darren Migues in the always dangerous Bounty Hunter.  If you are a fan of monster trucks, you know the name Bounty Hunter as being a former Freestyle World Champion and also as being one of the top performing trucks in the world.  When it comes to big power, Bounty Hunter is making it and driver Darren Migues knows how to use it.

These 5 drivers all have their work cut out for them as there will be 4 additional trucks running at Pocatello.  Rookie of the Year candidate Donald Epidendio and California Kid who currently sits 10th overall in the points standings will be there, joined by: Don Frankish in Maniac who is a TV star and legend in the sport, Mike Hawkins in the legendary Equalizer, and rounding out the field will be Jurassic Attack the flying Triceratops themed monster driven Idaho Falls own BJ Johnson who is ready to tear it up for his home area fans.

All of these trucks will be doing battle on April 17th at ISU Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.  The racing course is going to be huge and it will really let these trucks display their big power.  The Freestyle course is setting up to be 1 for the record books.  Not 1, not 2, but 3 school buses will be in the building and put to use – who knows what kinds of obstacles are going to be cooked up by the mad scientists at CFP – all that is for sure is that you do not want to miss this event!
