First action of the day is a Mid Size Car Demolition Derby just like we feature at the Red Neck Nationals every January. Datsun, Nissan, Pintos, they are harder to stop than you would believe. The pay-off to win is $500 dollars with a huge trophy for the winner and also a strong pay-off to the top 10 drivers who finish plus awards for them too.
Second into the arena for this Carmageddon of smashing cars with other cars will be a Big Car Demo Derby! These behemoths of the plains will be piloted by daring men and women as they slam their grain headers and corn pickers into each other. Never before seen in Billings this is going to be a sight! John Deere, Baldwin Gleaner, Case, International Harvester there are more of these old “crop munchers” laying around in farmers yards that are not used anymore that would make a great weapon of choice for this event. Combine Demolition Derby – this is going to be wild! $1000 to win plus every combine that enters and awards and pay-off to all combines that enter this history making event!

The 2010 Grand National Championships are in the books!
April 19, 2010
Pocatello, ID – Saturday night, April 17, the stars were out and the gloves came off in the final event for Checkered Flag Productions’ 2010 Grand National Championship. With 5 drivers contending for the tour championship the stakes were high as was the excitement level. A sold out crowd of 11,800 saw one of the most electric shows in Checkered Flag Productions history, and one of the greatest motorsporting events ever in the state of Idaho.
To go along with the championship event itself, Checkered Flag Productions teamed up with the local Make A Wish Foundation to put together 2 Wish Events in 2 days as well. Mitchell Taylor, 4 years old, from Pocatello, had a pizza party at his home with family, friends and the Bigfoot Bad Boy monster truck and driver Larry Swim on Thursday, April 15. Jackson Koger, 5, also from Pocatello came to the ISU Holt Arena on Friday, April 16, for a meet and greet with the Bounty Hunter monster truck and driver Darren Migues. Jackson was also treated to the ride of a lifetime when he got to ride around the parking lot with Darren in the Bounty Hunter.
On Saturday however, the pre-event festivities were done and a strictly business atmosphere fell on the ISU Holt Arena and all of the drivers in attendance. The track was worked and prepared for 2 long and grueling days and was looking great and ready for action. Following a very well attended, 2-hour Pit Party featuring an autograph session with all of the drivers and stuntman The Crusher, 2 monster ride trucks, and our own Miss Monster Truck Girls: Amber Ale and Luana Lynn – the floor was cleared to prepare for the opening ceremony and the National Anthem which was sung by 4 man quartet Sound Scape – who gave a rousing performance.
The first event on tap for the evening was the Wheelie Contest which also served as qualifying for the racing match up. Each truck took to the floor one at a time, for 1 wheelie attempt which was scored by 6 judges on a 1-10 scale. Several trucks came out and had great wheelies and slap wheelies, including Idaho’s own BJ Johnson who had a terrific slap wheelie in Jurassic Attack for a score of 48 which tied for 2nd with Bigfoot Bad Boy. Donald Epidendio the driver of California Kid managed to “walk” his truck across the floor on the back tires for a 44 and 4th place finish, but none of these wheelies were enough to get the win. In what might be referenced as a backflip attempt, Bill Payne in Rock Star came out and took on the van stack sideways and launched the truck upwards and sideways coming down on the truck’s side and eventually rolling over. The judges scored it a 58 out of 60 and no other effort could match that performance.
Final Wheelie Standings:
Rock Star – 58
Bigfoot Bad Boy – 48 (won tiebreaker)
Jurassic Attack – 48
California Kid – 44
Equalizer – 40
Bounty Hunter 38
Maniac – 30
Hot Tamale – 24
Barbarian – 20
Up next for the night’s event was Monster Truck racing. 8 trucks went to battle on a “Chicago Style” oval racing course that spanned the entire floor and allowed the trucks to use their big power. Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy had a surprising loss in round 1 against Devin Jones Barbarian, but came through the double elimination style event to end up in the final round against Darren Migues and Bounty Hunter. The trucks lined up on opposite sides of the arena and mashed the gas when the light turned green. The two trucks ran neck and neck for the entire race, but Swim managed to edge out Migues and Bigfoot took home the racing title. Migues took 2nd in racing, Jones’ Barbarian took 3rd and Isaiah Morales’ Hot Tamale took 4th in racing. Coming in 5th was Mike Hawkins Equalizer, with Jurassic Attack in 6th, Rock Star in 7th, and California Kid in 8th.
Following some quick track prep it was time for the crowd favorite Freestyle event. Don Frankish in Maniac and Isaiah Morales in Hot Tamale were the first two trucks on the floor. Frankish filled 90 seconds with a fast paced run and some nice air, and Morales got some big air over the school bus double, much to the crowds delight. Bounty Hunter came out in the 3rd spot, and ran for over 3 minutes with some monster air over the school bus double, as well as some nice donuts and big air off the car and van stacks. Migues was rewarded by the judges with a score of 58, one that would be tough to beat.
After performances from California Kid, Equalizer and Barbarian the spot light fell on Bill Payne and Rock Star. While Payne had a short run, he had the most electric moments of the night including a huge jump which caused the truck to roll over and land on all 4 wheels, which was then followed by yet another backflip attempt in between the school buses. The crowd went absolutely crazy and Payne was rewarded with a perfect 60 by the judges. That put him in first and left only 2 trucks to run.
The next truck on the floor was Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy, Swim came out with strong momentum and big air including a huge jump over the school buses, but as he was flooring it over one of the racing lanes the truck shut down. The problem was diagnosed as a blown engine and Swim’s run was over early resulting in a low score. Last onto the floor was local hot shoe BJ Johnson who piloted Jurassic Attack to a strong 90 second run that included some nice air and another well executed slap wheelie. The run was not enough to knock Payne out of the top spot however, and Bill Payne was declared the freestyle winner.
Final Freestyle Standings:
Rock Star – 60
Bounty Hunter – 57
Barbarian – 56
Hot Tamale – 54
Equalizer – 50
California Kid – 41
Jurassic Attack – 39
Maniac – 36
Bigfoot Bad Boy – 29
After some points calculating and tallying, the Tour Championship ceremony was ready. Bringing home 5th place, was Darren Migues in Bounty Hunter. In 4th was Hot Tamale driven by Isaiah Morales. 3rd place was taken by Devin Jones and Barbarian. Then it came down to the final 2. Despite his strong showing in wheelie and freestyle, Bill Payne did not score enough points to jump over Larry Swim and Bigfoot. For the 2nd year in a row Rock Star was the runner-up to Grand National Champion “Leadfoot” Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy. Larry’s strong lead going into Pocatello, and his win in racing clinched his 2nd straight title.
Congratulations to Team Bigfoot and to Larry Swim on another outstanding season. Swim managed to win nearly 50% of the events he entered, and his strong domination of racing allowed him to lock up another championship. With an unprecedented back-to-back championship effort, we can only imagine what Swim and Bigfoot will have cooked up for the next Winter Nationals tour!

* Total Points reflects the points scored in only each driver’s best 6 regular season events combined with their score from the Pocatello championship event. See below for further explanation.
THE CFP 2010 POINTS SYSTEM
The 2010 Checkered Flag Productions Monster Truck Winter Nationals Champion will be decided using a points system that rewards top performance in wheelie / donut, racing and freestyle competitions. The top three finishers in wheelie / donut and freestyle competitions will receive points, while each competitor in racing will receive points. There is a separate points scale based on whether the racing competition is run using standard brackets or run with third and fifth place races included. The maximum points a driver may score in one event is 250, while the maximum points a driver could score in the regular season is to be determined. Only the top 10 drivers will be listed on the website.
To account for the fact that some drivers will run more events than others, only a driver’s best 6 event point totals will be included in their overall point total. The Monster Truck Grand Nationals Championship Event in Pocatello, ID will be worth double points and will be added to the driver’s best 6 regular season event point totals to calculate their final season point total. Working on Fall 2010 and Winter 2011
April 11, 2010
The BAD BOYS of ARENACROSS will be racing inside some new venues this next fall and Winter. It seems arenacross is ready for the CFP Crew to come and jazz things up some! We are working on a series sponsor and contingencies. Sponsors will help us with a tv show which will help turn our series into more a National Series.
With races this past year gong on all over the place at the same time it was hard for us to have a yearly points series, we hope to schedule races in regions where you would qualify through that region to come to a National Championship at the end of the year. The best thing is for you amateurs will be that you also will get into that event!
Our races are open for local racers and there will be some of the best traveling pro riders there too. Riders need a a good track to race on and this will be no mamby pamby deal, it will not be for the first time rider but track design will allow it to be safe for the amateur riders, but the pro riders will be challenged with whoop sections, triple jumps, rythm sections, and everything a rider will expect to see.
We will always strive to put on the safest – most professional – and fun races you can find. Thanks for the past season and we will update you and our schedule as we put them together.
Thanks again!

Points Update – The Battle for the National Championship
April 9, 2010
After more than 3 months of touring, crushing cars, catching big air and seemingly endless miles spent on the road in between – the fight for the Grand National Championship is set, and the bell is getting ready to sound the beginning of the final battle.
In what has possibly been the closest points race in Monster Truck History – 5 trucks remain with a shot at the 2010 Championship! With double points on the line in all disciplines at the final event – all 5 contenders truly have a shot at the title!
Current Top 5 Standings:
- Larry Swim – Bigfoot Bad Boy – 1368 points
- Bill Payne – Rock Star – 1150 points
- Devin Jones – Barbarian – 1125 points
- Isaiah Morales – Hot Tamale – 1050 points
- Darren Migues – Bounty Hunter – 933 points
At the Final Event – set to take place in Pocatello, Idaho at ISU Holt Arena on April 17 – it will be possible to take home 500 total points. With that number in mind the Bigfoot Team had better bring their “A Game” because everyone is gunning for Larry Swim and the Bigfoot Bad Boy – the defending National Champion. Larry has the possibility to take home an unprecedented 2nd straight title, but with a field consisting of 8 more of the biggest and baddest Monster Trucks in the world – his work will be cut out for him.
One guy that wants to foil the victory celebration is Bill Payne the driver of Rock Star. Bill is widely regarded for his electric Wheelie and Freestyle performances – and with his driving style and push it to the edge attitude a rivalry is beginning to form between him and the Bigfoot camp. Bill and Rock Star finished 2nd in the final points standings last year – and you better believe he will do whatever it takes on the track to prevent that from happening again.
The rest of the battle is made up of 3 of the top up and coming drivers in the business today. Devin Jones and Barbarian are enjoying a successful season in their first campaign to capture a championship. Devin is no rookie, but this is first chance at running for an overall tour championship and he is certainly making the most out of it.
Closely behind Devin is the Hot Tamale driven by hot shoe Isaiah Morales. Isaiah is another one of these guys who will do whatever it takes to put on a show for the fans, and as such he is quickly earning a reputation for being one of the top performers in the world. Sitting just over 300 points out of the lead Isaiah has his work cut out for him, and he will take it to a whole new level at the Dome in Pocatello.
Last but certainly not least is Darren Migues in the always dangerous Bounty Hunter. If you are a fan of monster trucks, you know the name Bounty Hunter as being a former Freestyle World Champion and also as being one of the top performing trucks in the world. When it comes to big power, Bounty Hunter is making it and driver Darren Migues knows how to use it.
These 5 drivers all have their work cut out for them as there will be 4 additional trucks running at Pocatello. Rookie of the Year candidate Donald Epidendio and California Kid who currently sits 10th overall in the points standings will be there, joined by: Don Frankish in Maniac who is a TV star and legend in the sport, Mike Hawkins in the legendary Equalizer, and rounding out the field will be Jurassic Attack the flying Triceratops themed monster driven Idaho Falls own BJ Johnson who is ready to tear it up for his home area fans.
All of these trucks will be doing battle on April 17th at ISU Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho. The racing course is going to be huge and it will really let these trucks display their big power. The Freestyle course is setting up to be 1 for the record books. Not 1, not 2, but 3 school buses will be in the building and put to use – who knows what kinds of obstacles are going to be cooked up by the mad scientists at CFP – all that is for sure is that you do not want to miss this event!
Make A Wish Event Recap – Enid, Oklahoma
April 2, 2010
Enid, OK – On Thursday March 25th Checkered Flag Productions teamed up with the legendary Dan Runte and his Bigfoot monster truck and with the Make A Wish Foundation of Oklahoma to put on a special event for a very special little guy – Chandlar Meacham.
Chandlar’s parents had only told him that they had a surprise for him – but they left the details for later. At 6pm Dan and his Summit Bigfoot monster truck greeted Chandlar and friends and family at Mazzio’s Pizza in Enid, Oklahoma. As the truck roared to life the excitement began to build in Chandlar until he couldn’t contain himself any longer. Once the truck was situated and parked Chandlar raced over to see it along with his friends and family. Autographs were signed and photos were taken for over an hour, to say that Chandlar and his friends had a blast would be a total understatement. Dan and Team Bigfoot also brought a gift pack for Chandlar that had a t-shirt and toy truck of Dan’s Bigfoot with it.
After an hour or so Chandlar had worked up enough of an appetite to leave the truck for awhile and everyone headed inside for the Pizza Party. 8 pizzas of various varieties and 27 soft drinks were ordered up and handed out to the entire group. We’d like to thank Mazzio’s for working with us and our large group, and also for having some darn tasty pizza that everyone enjoyed.
Unfortunately, even the best of times must come to an end and Bigfoot had to be loaded and returned to the arena before dark to remain in compliance with local wide-loading laws. There was heartfelt goodbye as well as a few final photos and autographs. It was a hard scene to leave, but it was known by all that we had to go.
Later in the night we received this email from Tiffany, Chandlar’s mom:
—————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Thank you so much, words really cannot express the amount of gratitude my husband and I have for you and Dan and all at Checkerflag productions. This was the best gift my son could have received. As soon as we were home, he wanted to play with his new monster truck then ran and got his others lining them all up. Hopefully the pictures come through and again thank you, thank you, thank you. It was wonderful.
Thanks and bless you all!
The Meacham Family
Tiffany, Chad, and Chandlar
—————————————————————————————————————————————————-
We would like to take this chance to say Thank you to the Meacham Family as well. We had a great time and it is always great to meet and make that personal contact with a great family and a wonderful little guy like Chandlar.
